Do you choose plant-based or oxidized hair dyes? There is no distinction between good and bad, only different needs
Which one to choose depends on your needs.
Provincial version
If you pursue bright hair color and hope to maintain it for a long time, oxidation type hair dyes are the first choice.
If you prefer dark tones, have low requirements for hair color, or are prone to allergies, plant-based hair dyes are more suitable.
3. Key points for safe hair dyeing: purchase legitimate hair dyeing products, limit the frequency of hair dyeing, extend the interval between hair dyeing, and prevent hair dyeing allergies.
oxidation hair dyes
Dyeing principle
Oxidative hair dyes are the most commonly used, mainly through dye intermediates/coupling agents such as p-phenylenediamine, p-aminophenol, resorcinol, and o-aminophenol. Under the activation of hydrogen peroxide, oxidation and coupling reactions occur, forming larger dye molecules in the hair and being locked in the hair for a long time.
advantage
✅ There are a wide variety of colors that can be selected according to different needs.
✅ Chemically synthesized hair dyes have stable coloring and strong stability, resulting in significant dyeing effects.
shortcoming
The use of chemical synthetic substances, especially aromatic amines, aminophenols, and hydrogen peroxide, may induce allergies.
While destroying the keratin structure of hair, it can cause the loss of protein and a decrease in crystallinity in the hair.
When cleaning, it can have varying degrees of impact on the water quality and environment.
Suitable for: Those who prefer bright colors and hope to maintain their hair color for a long time.
Plant-based hair dye
Dyeing principle
Plant hair dyes are the oldest hair dyeing method and have been used since the Third Dynasty of ancient Egypt. They mainly use plant-based dyes as raw materials and plant active substances as colorants, assisted by physical or minimal chemical methods to complete hair dyeing. Plant hair dyes include hematoxylin, chrysanthemum, sorghum leaf/stem extract, Polygonum multiflorum extract, ginger extract, mint extract, sage extract, saffron extract, etc.
advantage
✅ Less irritating effect on the head skin.
✅ The impact on hair quality is relatively small.
shortcoming
Poor stability, not firmly integrated with hair.
Single color spectrum, incomplete colors, and darker hues.
The dyeing time is too long.
Suitable for: People who do not have high color requirements, prefer dark tones, or are prone to allergies can choose plant hair dyes to reduce the risk of sensitization.
Four Suggestions for Safe Hair Dyeing
Choose legitimate hair dye products
Regardless of the type of hair dye used, it should be purchased through legitimate and legitimate channels, and the Chinese name, registration number, approval status, and other information of the product should be verified.
Limit the frequency of hair dyeing and extend the interval between hair dyeing. The frequency of hair dyeing should not be too high, and the interval between two hair dyeing should be at least 3 months, and not more than 2 times a year.
Preventing hair dye allergies
Before dyeing hair, check the allergen reminder in the manual and conduct an allergy test according to the manual. Only use if there are no abnormal reactions. When dyeing hair, gloves should be worn to avoid contact with the eyes.
Special groups should be cautious when using hair dye products
Hair dye products should be used with caution when there are wounds on the scalp, women in preparation for or during pregnancy, and people with allergic constitution.
